Pink is in!

It's hard to believe it's really snowing in Tokyo today!  Especially after such a beautiful week-end.   On our way to check-out our site, Naira and I took the time to look at neighboring properties, commenting on style or landscaping.

This is Plum Tree Blooming Season in the capital, and we enjoyed some very nice sights.  We also noticed a theme emerge...  pink is everywhere!

Pink seems to be making an elegant come-back, as we can see here, perhaps as a perpetual reminder the lovely tones of the ume and sakura flowers...

Here's a close-up of Ume Flowers I thought our folks back home would enjoy.   It's Pink Fever in Japan in March...  Absolutely stunning!

So I guess this explains the pink portable toilet on our site!

The kids had a blast with this one!

Hi there, long time viewer, 1st time poster.
We are planing on building this year up here in Fukushima. Your house looks to be coming a long nice. Can you tell us some info about the plan of your house, what style of house will it be? what goods did you go with in the kitchen?
Thanks for sharing with us, I hope to start a blog soon as well.

Hi Terry! Thank you for taking the time to comment. We've never been to Fukushima, but the Cherry Blossoms at Kanon River offer an incredible view that we might like to see for ourselves one of these days!

About our house plans, they were pretty much dictated by 3 factors: 1. our preferences (3 bedrooms, studio, wood deck, etc), 2. the shape of the land which is not rectangular, and 3. the building restrictions including building area of 40%, space between our house and the neighbors', roof incline, and various others. Our architect suggested we have a deck within the walls of the house and a large balcony on the 2F, which makes the house seem larger than it actually is (50m2/floor). We also insisted on getting a comfortable loft with as much usable space as possible and sturdy stairs (not a ladder) to use alternately as music room, play room and guest room...

The overall style of the house is European, although we have had to settle on some details due to budget constraints. We can always improve later, but we made sure we got high standard insulation, heating/cooling system, windows and floors.

About the kitchen, we took forever to decide on the stove, foreign make or Japanese. We finally opted for Panasonic for both the IH stove and the Range Hood. The sink and faucet took a long time to decide on too, as we wanted the sink to accommodate our current dish basket. Went for Sanwa for the sink and Grohe for the faucet. The kitchen was really problematic because we found that kitchen makers did not offer us the possibility to choose the appliances we wanted.

Please let us know when you start your blog so that we can link to it! We look forward to reading your adventures into building and living in Japan. Cheers!
